Good music doesn’t come easily. It’s discovered down mistaken paths and in heartfelt hardships.
After a long hiatus singer-songwriter Val Davis is making a return to performing. With roots dating back to the early 1980s, Val’s journey has been shaped by influences like Bruce Cockburn, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and David Wilcox.
Val started his performing career in Houston where he was exposed to Texas singer-songwriters like Towns Vanzandt, Joe Ely, John Prine, Shake Russell and Dana Cooper and many other Kerville regulars. Val’s musical career looked promising when he signed a recording deal in the early 1990s, leading to the release of his well-received debut album, Immortal. The album garnered national attention, including a feature on NPR’s All Songs Considered, WXPN, and Val recieved over 1.2 million listens on the European music sharing site Jamendo. Val has shared the stage with renowned acts like The Little River Band and Loverboy. Houston’s Public News even coined a phrase to describe his music: “Texas New-Age Folk-N-Roll.” Many have commented that his music is like a cross between Stephen Stills and Peter Gabriel, but Val’s music is all his own. Unfortunately, his rising star faced an unexpected setback due to legal troubles affecting his publishing company which put his musical career on hold for nearly 10 years as he could not perform his own music in public.
After raising 7 kids, Val and his wife Dona are empty nesters and now Val is back and ready to perform. He brings a wealth of experience and emotional depth to his songwriting. His new material reflects the life lessons learned during his time away, blending poignant storytelling with the rich musicality that first captivated audiences.
Val is now ready to share his new songs and reconnect with fans. His upcoming performances promise to deliver an authentic and heartfelt experience, inviting audiences to join him on this renewed journey.
